The son of an artist and a political activist, Julian has immersed himself in creative and political thought throughout his life. He started his professional career as a circus clown in Allen C. Hill’s Great American Circus. He then spent years performing and composing music before co-founding a successful recording studio in Boston.

In 2005 he met his future wife, filmmaker Cozette Carroll, discovered Henri Cartier-Bresson, and bought a camera.

As a photographer for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, he produced images that were used in web, print, and television media and widely exhibited at the 2012 Republican convention. Julian has also worked for democratic candidate for governor of New Hampshire, Maggie Hassan, whose two notable bipartisan victories benefited from his images.
